ACTIVITIES
Fishing
Both fly-fishing and spinning methods could prove an adventure to
fish hunters. Trout fishing with a fly or spoon is a very enjoyable
sport and fish from 200 gms to 4 kgs, can be taken. Rainbow Trout,
Carp Masheer, Wallugu Attu, Murrel, Carnatic Carp, Catfish are mostly
found in the Moyar River and in the Bhavani above Parelli Dam. Though
spinning proves a much more successful method for Trout, Fly Fishing
can also be fun. Licence to fish can be obtained from Manager, TN
Fisheries Development Corporation at Bhavanisagar and also from
the Asst. Director of Fisheries, Fishdale, Udhagamandalam.
Bird Watching

The Nilgiri's have a wide and varied wild fauna and flora which
is noticeable especially in the case of avifauna. Birds are generally
classified into various categories, with Nilgiri birds however falling
into the hill bird class. The Nilgiri Verditer, a Sparrow sized
blue bird, is the most conspicuous of the species as it is not only
a fine singer but also performs a conspicuous perch. The bold black
and orange fly catcher, though old elsewhere, is rather shy in the
Nilgiris. The Nilgiri laughing thrush, a member of the thrush family,
is less visible as they stick to the thickets, but they give themselves
away with their sporadic bursts of maniacal "laughter" in complete
disregard for harmony. Bulbuls are active noisy and are among the
sprightliest of the lot. Their loud clear whistling calls attract
attention to themselves. Nilgiris woodcock, the orange minivet,
the Malabar whistling thrush, the southern grackle or Hill myna,
and the red tailed drongo, the fairy blue bird, malabar trogon,
the shama and Raptors, Lizard Hawks and large eagles are found in
the Nilgiris. Trekking
Trekking

For trekking in and around Ooty, one must get prior permission from
the following authorities.

Boating
Boating at Ooty Lake.
Golf

Gymkhana Club's 18 hole golf course is located at a height of 7400
ft. With a par of 70 over 6207 yards. The golf links are laid out
over an area of 193 acres of the Ooty wenlock downs. The Ooty Golf
course follows the soft contours of down land, with its tonsured
effect of tree-bare heights is not only scenic but also quite trying,
and it would be wise for the visitors to play only nine of the 18
holes on the first day. The Ooty links are lush but tight, and greens
are large and well maintained.
